((Heyy, guys. Okay. This is a CLOSED thread. I'm just doing it for my own amusement. Please don't post a reply to this.))
Trinity hopped over, instantly nuzzling into the mottled grey mess that was Augsbery's fur. After a few seconds of happy greetings, she sat up and watched him with an open--if serious--stare. "Come with me," she said, tail twitching with excitement.
Without protest, the loner got to his feet, half-heartedly giving his chest fur a lick to untangle it. "Where are we going?"
"You'll see!" Trinnie breathed--well, squeaked. Her hasty nature was already making her twitch. "Now come on, we have to find my housefolk..."
Instantly, the tom hesitated, looking uncertain. "Trinnie..." he began, but was soon lost for words. At the dying light in her eyes, he managed, "If they see me with you again...They wouldn't keep your kits, when you had them. Now they see the mangy old grump that fathered them...what do you expect them to do?"
She blinked with hurt. As if she'd let her family do anything to him! "Fine," she muttered, turning away pointedly and making her way out again. "I guess I'll go watch the stars with Dante, then..."
That did the trick. Augsbery stiffened again, a quick flash of jealousy blazing in his eyes before he came up beside his mate. "So where are they sitting?"
Victorious, she bounced her way back across the park, Augsbery following behind, considerably calmer. They stopped at a younger house-kit, who bent down to pet Trinity and to give Augsbery a look of understanding mingled with slight disgust.
Emboldened, Trinnie clawed her way up a nearby tree, gesturing with her tail for her mate to follow. He obeyed, settling high up next to her, and looked out across the area.
Then, suddenly, a long stream of light shot into the air, at which Trinnie breathed, "We just made it..." Her words were drowned out by a loud BANG, which resounded in their ears and made Augsbery flinch.
But then the colors came--a magnificent collection of golds and reds, followed up by blues and silvers that also provided a blast of sound.
As the cheering below them also erupted, the Maine coon leaned closer to Augsbery, eyes bright with more than the colorful lights. "Ain't it beautiful?" she purred, head resting on his shoulder.
The grey cat made no sound as several more of the thunder-like rumbles bombarded his ears, but soon grumbled, "It's enough to make any cat go blind and deaf..."
Trinnie glanced up at him, worry clouding her expression. Maybe she really shouldn't have bothered him--and gone to sit with Dante, like her housefolk would have wanted...
But in that glance she saw a contentedness in his eyes, his face peaceful. Joy filled her, and she once more snuggled deep into him, tail entwining with his.
They sat there for a long time, making no noise and barely moving except for the occasional twitch of the ears when the loud bangs were too much for them.
"Thanks for coming to see the exploding stars with me..." the she-cat rumbled. Augsbery merely nodded in response, not taking his eyes off the now-bright sky.
The two were there for a full thirty minutes, content with just watching fireworks burst and being with each other.
And in those thirty minutes, Trinity was sure...
She was the happiest cat there was.[/ul]
