Arcticfeather blinked her eyes open. Bright sunlight hit them. What? Sunlight? she thought in alarm. Huriedly, she backed up, straight into a tree. "Ooph!" she mumbled, and turned around. There was the tree, right where she remembered. And beyond it, a forest filled with shadows. Arcticfeather darted past the tree and into the safety of the trees. Looking at the sun, Arcticfeather realized that the time of day was wrong for her arrival spot to be in shadow. She had lost track of the time while in the Dark Forest. Oh well, she thought to herself. At least no one saw me, despite my miscalculations. Arcticfeather turned in a slow circle. Everything was almost exactly the way that she remembered it. There were a few new trees, and the older ones were taller, but it had been many seasons since she had walked here, alive. Now she was back, and ready to take over this Clan... Doing a quick half-turn, Arcticfeather faced the camp. There were plenty of shadows on the side of camp across from her. She would hide there until nightfall, at which point she would sneak into the camp and possess Brightstar. She figured that she could get a head start by attacking a sleeping cat. Not a very honorable plan, but since when had she been honorable? Smirking slightly, Arcticfeather circled the camp, preparing to wait out the day until the sun set, and her plan could take effect...

The sun was setting, casting long shadows over the forest. Arcticfeather had only left her perch on a shady branch to hunt two or three times. She needed to be at her strongest when she attacked. Yawning, Arcticfeather leapt down from her branch, landing lightly on the floor of the forest. Slowly, sticking to the shadows, Arcticfeather circled the clearing until she was behind the leader's den. Brightstar would no doubt be returning to her den soon, and then Arcticfeather would attack. Everything was unfolding perfectly. A sudden rustling behind Arcticfeather made her jump and turn around. A cat that Arcticfeather didn't recognize was walking past, a mouse in her jaws. Suddenly, recognition crashed over her. This cat was Dreamheart, one of the cats that she would one day command. Or that would one day be a rouge. Arcticfeather flattened herself against a tree, feeling the rough bark against her fur. She had to stay out of sight for now. Being seen would ruin it all. Once Dreamheart had passed, Arcticfeather padded away from the camp and into the forest. Trying to sneak into the camp now was too risky. Dreamheart's appearance had proved that. Arcticfeather would hunt now, and maybe nap a short while, so that she would be strong once the sun set completely. Then, she would attack.

Arcticfeather hunted near the camp, because she didn't know who was out there. The prey was sparse here, but as Arcticfeather ranged in ever-widening arcs, she found plenty of prey. A mouse and a sparrow met their end at her claws. Arcticfeather purred as she brought each of them down, and then devoured them. They brought strength to her. Since the sun was still sinking, Arcticfeather settled down to wash her fur. The chill of night was begining to creep across everything, and Arcticfeather shivered. Though she was little more than a ghost, it was still cold to her.

((I have the same question as Inky. When should Arcticfeather possess Brightstar?))
